Cofs In Logo Design

By Stephen Grisham, Sr.

Web design has become a very common skill and many people choose to design their own websites, but for most businesses it is a good idea to use a web design professional to design the company website. This is especially true when it comes to the logo. The right logo provides just the right image for the company.

Since a logo is an image that visually identifies your company to your customers, itas important to get it right. Here are some guidelines for evaluating the logo your web designers have created to make sure that it will be appropriate for your company. The criteria used to evaluate a logo are color, font, size and originality (COFS).

The first consideration is color. If you are using color in your logo, make sure the color you choose grabs the customeras attention. Red and blue are popular choices for logo colors. If your business is one that is naturally associated with a certain color, itas a good idea to use that color in your logo. For example, the logo for Sunshine Day Care just wouldnat look right without yellow.

Even if you use a color logo, there will be times when you need to use it in black and white. In many publications, it costs quite a bit more to use color. When you are trying to decide on a logo design, make sure it looks good in black and white as well as color. It should be crisp, clean and easy to read if there are words or letters.

You also want to make sure the font is right for your company. If you are a dance studio, you do not want to have an extremely masculine, boxy font, you want something that has a soft flow to it. In the same respect, if youare run a boxing ring you probably do not want to pick a curlicue font.

Checking the size of the logo is also important. Although the professional web design company is not going to show you a logo that doesnat look good at its current size, you need to make sure that if you wanted to enlarge it onto a billboard it would still look good. At the same time, if you wanted to order pens that you put your log on it would also need to look good at that size.

The last thing to consider is originality. You donat want your logo to look so much like another companyas logo that your customers arenat sure what company it is for when they see it. You also donat want it to be so wild that it is overpowering, unless of course your company needs a very artistic image, such as an art gallery.

You can call it the COFS, color, originality, font and size, principle to help you to remember. If you keep in mind these criteria when choosing from the logos the professional web design company presents to you, you will find a logo that is right for your company. - 16039
