By Michael Erikson

There is nothing quite as frustrating as forgetting an appointment or finding yourself out on the go and needing to access your personal documents. It can be enough to make you want to pull your hair out. So what exactly do you need?

You need something that is portable, but allows you to keep track of your schedule and important events. New phones have many of these capabilities, but you may need something more for your particular lifestyle. You need to check out a handheld computer. It's sleek, has handy gadgets and software programs.

In early versions of the PDA the information could be lost when the device ran out of battery. Fortunately this is not the case anymore as newer versions is using both different hardware and software to control the storage. This problem was taken care of with the introduction of Windows Mobile 5.

Today's models are much more advanced. You can keep track of important appointments, browse the internet, organize your files and even play games and listen to music. The current version of the pocket PC operating system is windows mobile 6 but the real breakthrough came with window mobile 5 and was a great relief to handheld computer owners. The pocket PC is by a more general term also referred to as a PDA or Personal Digital Assistant

Nowadays PC software is there in the cell phone, so it can be used as a personal computer when on the go. The Windows mobile Smartphone is thus a combination of a cell phone and a PDA.

The conventional pocket PC is already getting obsolete and the new up comer, Windows mobile Smartphone is getting the mainstream's attention. This is the new favorite by both companies and civilian gadget users. It's basically a phone with PC Software and can be used just like a regular PC but in a very portable way of course.

The pocket PC is a great tool to have if you find yourself away from your home computer or office. It is an excellent way to stay in touch. There are some great models on the market today, such as the PalmOs, iPhone, Blackberry and many of the Hewlett Packard brands of smart phones. Even if you already have a cell phone, the PDA can still be used for its scheduling capabilities; however, once you have fully mastered the PDA, you'll never want to go back to a paper planner again. - 16039
